SMILES SLOC
JEM / SMILES will be a sub-millimeter limb sounder operating on the International Space Station (ISS). The receiver will use a superconducting mixer element to achieve a very low noise temperature.
Omnisys has designed a phase-lock and biasing control system for a 637 GHz submillimeter local oscillator for usage in the Japanese SMILES instrument.
Based on the experience from the ODIN satellite, a phase-lock and control system for the Japanese SMILES experiment, scheduled for operation on the International Space Station has been developed. Although the basic design is similar to the ODIN version, it differs in frequencies, interfaces as well as specification. The design has also been improved in a number of areas compared to the ODIN versions, which is natural as it is a second generation design.
